Inmate-Attorney Communications

It is the goal of the RSW Regional Jail to ensure meaningful and reasonable communication between legal counsel and inmates and we offer several methods to facilitate this access.

Video Visits- This allows attorneys the ability to schedule same-day visits with inmates using the confidential (unmonitored and unrecorded) Paytel video visitation system. By using this system, an attorney can schedule a visit and meet with an inmate for a minimum of thirty (30) minutes. If additional time is needed, they can schedule a back-to-back visit to give them longer, as long as there is a time slot available.

• Attorneys must first contact Major Michael Miller (michael.miller@rswregionaljail.com or 540-622-5028) with their request to be added as a non-recorded visitor. As part of this request, they must provide their full name,
  bar number, and a valid phone number that will be listed as part of the account.
• Once approved, attorneys will need to go to paytelconnect.com and set up an account, using that same phone number.
• For technical support, please send requests to help@paytel.com.
• Video visits are available every day from 9:00am to 11:30am, 1:30pm to 4:30pm, and 7:00pm to 9:00pm.

Scheduling Video Visits

• When an attorney wants to schedule a visit, they can log into their account and use the drop-down menu to select an inmate to visit with.
• Every inmate housing unit is equipped with a video visit kiosk that is reserved for confidential attorney visits.
  • Please note, these visits are a on first-come first-serve basis and only the time slots available are the visits that can be scheduled.
• When a visit is scheduled, it will scroll on the inmate wall kiosk with a time and the inmate’s tablet will receive a notification that a visit has been scheduled.
  • The inmate will not receive the notification unless they are logged in on the tablet so it’s important the attorney communicates with them in advance of a
    plan to visit or schedules the visit far enough in advance to give the inmate time to see the notification.
  • Staff will monitor the visit schedule and assist with getting the inmate to the kiosk, but please understand operational matters will take priority.

Onsite Visits- RSW Regional Jail offers two types of onsite visits for legal counsel; Walk-In and Scheduled.

• Walk-In Visits
  o Available Monday-Friday (excluding holidays) 9:00am-11:30am and 1:30pm-5:00pm.
  o No appointment is necessary.
  • No Walk-In Visits will start after 4:30pm.
  • All Walk-In Visits must be concluded by 5:00pm.
•  Attorneys must present a valid government issued identification card and their bar card.
• Visits will be conducted in a visit booth with a controlled access paper slot to allow the attorney to pass paperwork to the inmate.
  • Please note: an officer must be present the entire time the paper slot is open.
•  Scheduled
  •  Must be scheduled twenty-four (24) hours in advance with the Captain of Security.
  • Visits will be conducted in a room, within security, allowing the attorney to meet with an inmate face to face.
  • All property requested to be brought in will be searched. We ask that you limit property brought into security to only those items necessary to meet with the inmate.
  • Anyone entering security is subject to search.
  • No cell phones are permitted.
  • Any electronic device (tablet, laptop, etc.) necessary while meeting with the inmate is subject to approval by the Captain of Security.
  • To schedule a meeting with an inmate, please contact 540-622-6097 Monday-Friday 9:00am-5:00pm.

Please note, all visits are subject to cancellation or termination due to unforeseen operational matters. If a visit is cancelled or terminated, we will make notification to the
visitor and work to reschedule it as soon as possible.
